Topic wise Questions Analysis for GATE CE
Based on previous year GATE CE papers, Geo-Technical (Soil Mechanics, Consolidation, Permeability, Slope Stability, Index properties, Foundation Design, Concrete Technology), Environmental & Transportation Engineering and Fluid Mechanics are having weightage more than 50 marks. So prioritizing these subjects may get you more marks. Apart from the above subjects and topic Maths and Aptitude reasoning has good weight in the question paper. Question up to 30 marks are asked all together from Maths , Aptitude and reasoning.
Civil engineering examines ability of candidates on the basis of their knowledge in General aptitude, Engineering mathematics, Mechanics, Structure analysis, Concrete structure, Steel structure, Geotechnical Engineering, Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Surveying. It is seen that weight age of general aptitude and Geo-Technical engineering has been constantly on 15 questions from 2011 to 2015. Whereas, weightage of Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulics section has taken an upward shift from 7 to 11 questions in year 2011 to 2015.
GATE is a national level exam to test the candidates’ comprehensive understanding in different undergraduate subjects in streams like engineering, technology and Architecture and is considered to be one of the toughest exams for engineering entrance institutes. From the trends shown here only 14-17% of the total candidates who appear for the exam can clear it and make upto the top institutes who are taking GATE score as one of the criteria to get admission in their institutes.
